Ready for the Revolution? History and the Black Panther Party

In this filmed lecture, Dr. Waldo E. Martin (the Alexander F. and May T. Morrison professor of American history and citizenship at the University of California, Berkeley) offers remarks as part of the exhibit Changing America: The Emancipation Proclamation, 1863 and the March on Washington, 1963 at the Jereld R. Nicholson Library, Linfield College. The exhibit (presented by the Smithsonian's National Museum of African American History and Culture and the National Museum of American History in collaboration with the American Library Association Public Programs Office, and made possible by the National Endowment for the Humanities) commemorates two events, linked together in a larger story of freedom and the American experience, that changed the course of the nation. Martin discusses the history of the Black Panther Party in the United States, including common myths.
